Case Study: TRULY
My Neck Is Stuck At 90 Degrees

Short Documentary
A Story of Resilience and Global Compassion

Brief

In 2021, Black Production Films collaborated with UK-based Barcroft Studios to produce a compelling short documentary titled "My Neck Is Stuck At 90 Degrees," as part of the BORN DIFFERENT series. The film chronicles the life of Afsheen, a young girl from Thar, Sindh, Pakistan, suffering from a severe neck condition that left her head permanently tilted at a 90-degree angle. Due to financial constraints, her family was unable to afford the necessary medical treatment.

The Challenge:

Capturing Afsheen's story required sensitivity and a deep understanding of the cultural and emotional nuances involved. The production team faced the challenge of portraying her daily struggles authentically, without compromising her dignity, while also highlighting the broader issues of healthcare accessibility in remote regions.

The Solution:

Under the direction of Syed Zeshan Ahmed, the team embarked on a journey to Thar, Sindh, to document Afsheen's life. The documentary's release garnered over a million views worldwide, drawing attention from international audiences. Moved by Afsheen's plight, Dr. Rajagopalan Krishnan from India offered to perform the corrective surgery free of charge. A global fundraising campaign covered her travel and accommodation expenses. The successful operation transformed Afsheen's life, allowing her to live healthily and normally.
