Case Study:JCM Power

Humans of JCM | Employee Story Films
Highlighting the People Powering the Vision Across the Globe

Brief

JCM Power is an international independent power producer operating in emerging markets, with a dedicated workforce spread across Pakistan, Africa, and Canada. Following the success of our previous CSR short films for the company, JCM Power entrusted Black Production Films with a new, highly personal initiative: Humans of JCM.

The Challenge:

As a rapidly growing organization with employees operating across vastly different countries and time zones, JCM Power faced the challenge of maintaining a unified, connected company culture. They needed a way to bridge the geographic gap and demonstrate to their remote workforce that their individual stories, struggles, and triumphs are deeply valued by the company.

Furthermore, in a competitive job market where many candidates are simply looking for "a job," JCM Power wanted to provide a holistic, authentic look into their working culture. They needed a recruitment and internal communications tool that went beyond corporate bullet points to show prospective and current employees exactly what the organization is about—proving that as the company grows, its people grow with it.

The Solution:

We developed Humans of JCM, a documentary-style series profiling three distinct employees from Pakistan, Africa, and Canada. By focusing on their unique personal journeys, we anchored the cinematic narratives in the company's core values: "One team, one vision, one gigawatt." This mantra was woven differently into each of the three films, creating a cohesive series that celebrated individual diversity while uniting them under a shared global mission.

Initial Conversations & Contract:

Building on our established rapport with the JCM Power team, initial discussions centered on the strategic goals of the campaign. The contract was officially signed off in October 2025, setting the foundation for a deeply collaborative production process.

Pre-production & Strategy:

We began by conducting preliminary interviews with the three selected employees: Umar Saeed, Grace, and Irati. These conversations were essential to drafting the initial script iterations, which were then run through a feedback loop with the JCM team until perfectly locked.

Following the scripts, we developed comprehensive mood boards using visual references from our past work and global cinematic inspirations. The creative vision was split geographically: Faraz led the visual direction for Pakistan and Africa, while Syed Zeshan served as the Executive Lead for the project and directed the Canadian aesthetic. After presenting the mood boards, refining the concepts, and aligning the internal teams, we locked in the production dates.

Production & Filming:

Logistics required precise coordination across multiple borders and schedules. The production was executed with Fahad producing and Corey serving as the Director of Photography in Canada, supported by our local Vancouver crew.

  • Pakistan & Africa (Filming commenced Nov 18): Filming took place over three days at the JCM offices in Pakistan. We dedicated two days to capturing Umar Saeed's story—highlighting how he was convinced by Muhammad Ali to join a small team with a big vision for Pakistan, and how he has grown alongside the company. Grace, who has done incredible, hands-on solar power work navigating difficult terrains in her African community, happened to be traveling to Pakistan for a meeting. We capitalized on this, dedicating one shoot day to filming her interview in Pakistan, utilizing photographic b-roll of her work in Africa to complete her narrative.

  • Canada (Filming wrapped Nov 20): Irati's story focused on her difficult, resilient journey of moving to Canada from Spain, mastering a new language, and learning complex industry terminologies. Though she resides in Toronto, she flew to our headquarters in Vancouver for a one-and-a-half-day shoot. We utilized a strategic drone shot of Toronto to establish her home base, but filmed the core of her story in downtown Vancouver and the beautiful scenic landscapes of Maple Ridge. Her film beautifully highlighted her remote work lifestyle and her love for taking her laptop into the great outdoors.

Post-production & Refinements:

With principal photography and behind-the-scenes mobile footage captured, our post-production team went to work. We delivered the Director’s Cuts to the JCM Power team, securing immediate, positive feedback. We seamlessly integrated their minor tweaks and polished the final cuts for global distribution.
